The film already under way

At midlife, familiarity can make a person invisible to himself. This session was given to him as a gift: a chance to step outside his usual life and meet himself as the lead in a film already under way. The sea and the soaked shirt do not invent another man. They make the familiar one strange enough to see again. The question was simple: if your life were filmed today, what kind of film would it be?

Man in a loose tie lying back on a wet rock as a wave rushes past below
Man in a checked jacket lighting a cigarette against a pale sea
Man in a white shirt looking down over rocks, breaking water blurred behind
Man lying back on a rock shelf above the sea, tie across his chest
Man wading out of the surf in a soaked white shirt, glancing back
Close portrait of a man in a checked jacket and loose tie, cigarette in his lips, sea mist behind
Man standing waist-deep in the sea with a bottle, shirt soaked through
Man neck-deep in grey water, sipping from a glass
Silhouette of a man in a white shirt against a grey-blue evening sky, face lifted
Drenched man with a rose in his teeth and an undone tie hanging loose, dusk sea behind
Soaked man in a white shirt and undone tie holding a red rose in his teeth
Man lighting a match beside a flower held in his mouth, flame lighting his face
Man crouched on the shingle with his head in his hands, wet hair on end
Man in a white shirt tipping back on a chair planted in the surf at dusk
Man in a soaked white shirt lying on his back in the dark water, eyes closed
